Horses in Therapy
We are proud to be a vendor for Empowering Parents. As a vendor we offer the use of horses in therapy for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy serrvices. This is also know as HippoTherapy. The use of horses for therapy can be extremely powerful. We are looking to improve neurological function and sensory processing which will then increase the child's ability to improve strength, endurance, head control, postural control, ROM, and vestibular processing. This treatment technique is useful for treating neurlogical disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, head injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and behavioral disorders. When we use horses in therapy we utilize the natural gait and movement of a horse to provide motor and sensory input that stimulates the anterior and posterior swinging movements, the movement of the horse requires the rider to sit upright and acquire balance, the horse and the side walkers provide sensory and motor input.
